A small wrapped gift with twine and a glass ornament resting on pine branches

A DnD dice advent calendar is a good gift for someone who already plays Dungeons & Dragons or another tabletop role-playing game. Behind 12 to 25 doors it holds new dice, often full sets, plus extras such as a bag or tray. Order early, since at least one 2026 edition was gone by mid October.

Who a dice advent calendar suits

A dice advent calendar suits a player who rolls dice every week and likes owning more than one set. The D&D Basic Rules name the dice the game uses: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20, with a pair of ten-sided dice read as percentile dice. Any calendar built around those shapes works at the table, licensed or not.

It makes a strong gift when the person:

  • plays in a regular group, at a table or online
  • has a favorite d20, or talks about which dice roll well
  • runs games as the dungeon master and lends dice to new players

It is a weaker choice for someone who has never played. One dice set and a seat at a friend’s game is an easier start than 24 doors of dice they cannot use yet.

What the doors of a dice advent calendar hold

Dice advent calendars mix several kinds of item, and the mix decides how useful the gift is. Each row gives an example from a maker’s own listing.

What you may find What it means for the player Example from a maker’s listing
Full dice sets A matching set to use for a whole game FanRoll’s 2025 Elves edition: two full resin sets plus an exclusive holiday set
Random single dice Variety for a collector, but pieces may not match Q-Workshop’s 2025 calendar: 15 randomly selected dice
Mini dice Small sets for travel or a display shelf FanRoll’s Santa edition: mini dice in holiday red and green
Metal dice Heavier dice that feel like the prize of the box FanRoll’s 2025 Elves edition: one metal d20
Inclusion dice Dice with small themed objects set inside FanRoll’s Frostmaiden’s Aurora: a set with a spellbook, a rune and other inclusions
Gear Items that are not dice Frostmaiden’s Aurora: a dice tray and a dice bag; Q-Workshop 2025: a metal pin

The mix changes every year, so read the contents list for the edition you are buying, since some makers still sell earlier years.

Picking the right dice calendar for a DnD player

Picking a dice calendar for a DnD player starts with what they already own.

  1. Do they have a dice tray and bag? If not, a calendar with gear covers both. Frostmaiden’s Aurora is one FanRoll lists with a dice tray and a dice bag.
  2. Do they love the D&D brand itself? FanRoll says it partnered with D&D on Frostmaiden’s Aurora. ICv2 reported that the last door of FanRoll’s Red Robes & Winter Woes holds a d20 that has a Demilich inclusion. Unbranded dice work just as well in any game.
  3. 12 days or 24 to 25? Frostmaiden’s Aurora runs 12 days, the Q-Workshop and Dice Envy calendars run 24, and FanRoll’s 2026 Santa and 2025 Elves editions run 25. Our guide on when to start an advent calendar explains how 12-day calendars fit the dates.
  4. Matching sets or variety? A player who wants one set per character needs full sets. A collector may prefer a box of mixed single dice.

Quick picks for dice advent calendar gifts

Dice advent calendar gifts by player:

  • A D&D fan with no dice tray: FanRoll’s Frostmaiden’s Aurora, 12 days, with somewhere to roll and carry dice.
  • A player who wants matching sets: FanRoll’s 2025 Elves edition, with three full sets.
  • A collector who likes variety: Q-Workshop’s 2025 calendar, with 15 random dice and an 8-die holiday set.
  • A Dice Envy fan: every 2026 style was sold out on October 17, 2026, so check back for a restock.

Tip

Judge the value by counting what is inside. Compare the price with the number of full sets, metal dice and pieces of gear on the maker’s list, not with the number of doors.

When to order a dice advent calendar as a gift

Order a dice advent calendar by early November, or by late October for Q-Workshop by USPS, which Q-Workshop says takes 2 to 4 weeks to the US. On October 17, 2026, none of the Dice Envy 2026 styles could be bought, while FanRoll listed its Santa edition and Frostmaiden’s Aurora as in stock.

Shipping time matters too. Q-Workshop says orders ship within 48 hours of payment, then take 2 to 4 weeks by USPS to the US or up to 7 working days by UPS. Advent begins on November 29, 2026, and most calendars open on December 1, so an order placed in late November may arrive after the first door.

Dice advent calendars and young children

Dice advent calendars belong on a high shelf in a home with toddlers. A die is small enough to choke a young child, and federal CPSC rules keep small parts out of products made for kids younger than 3. Q-Workshop marks its 2025 box 14+, describes it as a hobby item rather than a toy, and prints a choking warning. A teenager with younger siblings should keep each day’s dice in a bag.

Dice are one kind of game calendar. Jigsaw and escape room calendars are compared in our puzzle and game calendar guide, for players who prefer riddles to rolls. Frequently asked questions

Is there a D&D advent calendar?

Yes. FanRoll sells Frostmaiden's Aurora, a branded calendar that counts down 12 days and holds gear as well as dice. FanRoll states it worked with D&D on it. ICv2 reported in July 2026 that a second FanRoll D&D calendar, Red Robes & Winter Woes, was due in stores on October 15, 2026.

How many dice come in a dice advent calendar?

It depends on the edition. Q-Workshop's 2025 calendar lists 23 dice behind 24 windows, and Dice Envy describes its 2026 calendar as holding over 30 dice. Count the full sets on the maker's list if the player wants dice that match.

Is a dice advent calendar a good gift for a dungeon master?

Usually, yes. Spare sets give a dungeon master dice to lend to new players, and a calendar with a tray or bag adds gear for the table. Skip it for someone who only collects one maker's dice, unless that maker sells a calendar.

What age is a dice advent calendar for?

Teens and adults. The Q-Workshop 2025 box carries a 14+ age mark and a choking warning for anyone younger than 3. Federal small parts rules from the CPSC cover products meant for that youngest group.
