What is NeeDoh, and who makes it?

NeeDoh is a line of squishy fidget toys made by Schylling, a toy company founded in 1975 by Jack Schylling. It was based in Rowley, Massachusetts for many years and now operates from North Andover, according to The Boston Globe.

The line started in 2017 with the Groovy Glob, a squeezable ball in a small box with retro graphics. Wikipedia’s NeeDoh article says the fillings vary by toy and include food-grade maltose sugar, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and cornstarch. The dough-like compound returns to its shape after a squeeze, which is the whole appeal.

Demand has been unusual. Schylling’s CEO, Paul Weingard, said the company sold through a whole year’s inventory in the first nine weeks of 2026, as quoted on Wikipedia. The Boston Globe reports that the rush also brought a flood of counterfeits and squishy imitators. That matters when you shop for a calendar later in the season.

What is inside the 2026 NeeDoh Squishmas advent calendar?

Retailers sell the Christmas edition as the NeeDoh Squishmas 2026 Advent Calendar. The Toy Insider lists it as the 2026 NeeDoh Advent Calendar, with these details:

• Doors: 24, one for each day from December 1 to Christmas Eve.
• Contents: groovy sensory surprises, Teenie NeeDoh favorites and exclusive holiday editions.
• Age grade: 3 and up.
• Maker: Schylling.

The Toy Insider’s launch story calls the toys “teeny-weenie NeeDohs.” Expect minis, not the full-size squeeze balls sold one per box in toy aisles. Schylling does not publish a door-by-door list, so the exact toys stay a surprise.

Is there a Halloween NeeDoh advent calendar?

Yes, and it is shorter. The NeeDoh Funky Frights calendar, sold as the Squish-O-Ween Countdown, has 13 doors. The Toy Insider says it holds six NeeDoh toys and seven other tactile treats, all with a spooky theme.

Thirteen doors means the countdown starts on October 19 if you want the last door on Halloween.

A second Halloween box, the Monster Mush Squish-O-Ween Countdown, appears on restock tracker TYPA as a Target Halloween 2026 calendar. We could not find a maker page for it, so check the box contents in person before relying on any listing’s description.

Other squishy advent calendars to compare

NeeDoh is not the only squishy countdown. These alternatives come from makers’ own product pages, and they differ in size, material and age grade.

Squishmallows calendars

The Micromallows calendar is the soft plush option. Jazwares lists 24 holiday characters at 2.5 inches for 2026, including Junie the Banana, James the Fox, Benny the Bigfoot and Cam the Cat.

Squish-a-longs are a different product: tiny squeezable plastic figures at 1-inch scale. Jazwares rates both Squish-a-longs countdowns 6 and up, older than the plush version.

Squishy Society 12-Day Advent Calendar

Squishy Society’s calendar runs 12 days, in a pink box with 12 compartments. The textures range from moldable cheese to crunchy bread cake and slushy balls. Three toys are calendar exclusives, and day 12 adds an extra squishy skin and a zip-tie. The brand suggests starting on December 13 so the last box opens on Christmas Eve. Its product page does not state an age grade, so read the box.

Who are squishy advent calendars best for?

NeeDoh belongs to the fidget and sensory toy category. The Boston Globe describes fidget toys as handheld objects that burn off restless energy or give a soothing sensation, including for children with sensory issues. Treat that as a description of the category, not a promise about any child.

In practice, the age grade does most of the sorting:

Ages 3 to 5. The Squishmas calendar and the Micromallows plush calendar carry a 3+ grade. Open doors together and keep the minis off the floor.

Ages 6 and up. The Squish-a-longs countdowns open up here, since Jazwares rates them 6+.

Are NeeDoh calendars safe for young children?

Mini squishies are small by design. The CPSC small parts rule bans small parts in toys intended for children under 3. A small part is anything that fits entirely into a test cylinder sized like a young child’s throat. Toys with small parts sold for older children must carry a choking hazard warning under 16 CFR 1500.19.

Heat is the other risk. After a social media trend showed kids microwaving NeeDoh toys, CBS New York reported burn injuries, including two girls aged 4 and 8. Schylling’s statement said misusing a NeeDoh “by microwaving, heating, or freezing is dangerous.” TODAY reports the packaging now warns against heating, freezing or microwaving.

What to do if a squishy toy leaks or breaks

The Washington Poison Center logged 103 calls about these toys in 2026, mostly children who bit into them, KREM reported. Cases were minor. Its advice:

1. Check first that the child is not choking.
2. Rinse the mouth with small sips of water.
3. Wash any gel off the skin.
4. Watch for an upset stomach.
5. Inspect the damaged toy, and keep squishies out of hot cars.

How to find a genuine NeeDoh calendar on eBay

Plenty of eBay listings are genuine boxes that someone bought at a store and is reselling, the same way many watches on eBay are real. Fakes exist too. Schylling has warned about counterfeits sold on sites including Temu, Alibaba and eBay and points buyers to stores such as Target, Walmart and Staples, according to Wikipedia and TODAY. Good Housekeeping also warns about lookalike websites posing as Schylling’s own store.

The listing itself tells you a lot. Before you buy, check these:

1. Schylling branding on the box. Genuine NeeDoh toys come in Schylling-branded packaging, and many full-size NeeDohs carry molded or embossed NeeDoh markings, per Wikipedia’s summary of Schylling’s guidance. Fakes can differ in packaging, branding, materials and squeeze feel.
2. Photos of the actual box. Stock images prove nothing. Look for clear photos of all sides of the seller’s own calendar, with the seal and doors intact.
3. Sealed, and the right edition. An opened calendar can be missing toys. Squishmas has 24 doors and Funky Frights has 13, so the box should match the title.
4. An established seller. eBay shows a seller’s positive feedback percentage under their username, next to a star that reflects how many ratings they have. A high percentage over many ratings is a good sign.
5. A realistic price. A sold-out calendar usually costs more on resale, not less. A price far below what others ask is a reason to look harder.

Early. For 2026, The Toy Insider reported on July 27 that Schylling was dropping both calendars early, and Good Housekeeping said on August 6 that they were already selling out fast.
