Assorted dark, milk and white chocolate truffles in a gift box

Gourmet chocolate advent calendars come from chocolatiers rather than candy brands. Vosges hides 25 days of truffles and bonbons behind drawers. Neuhaus offers 25 Belgian pralines in a box that unfolds into a tree. Compartes and Dandelion add illustrated and craft boxes; Divine makes two small ones. Order early, because many ship in November, and check the may-contain line.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat advent calendar

Vosges calls its 2026 calendar The Grand Cacao Lodge. It holds 25 days of chocolate behind drawers, with a final piece on Day 25. Inside are truffles in dark, milk and white chocolate, along with filled bonbons and caramels. There is also toffee, along with bars and marshmallows. Vosges counts two to three servings a day.

Each year brings a new theme, so the box changes from one December to the next. Vosges also sells Advent Refills that double each day’s chocolate, which helps when two people share the drawers. The calendar begins shipping in mid-November, and Vosges asks buyers to order it on its own rather than with other items.

Plan a spot for it before it arrives. Vosges lists the box at 14 by 13 by 11.5 inches, with LED lights and a sound module that plays three holiday songs, so it needs a table or shelf rather than a wall hook. Vosges asks that it be kept at room temperature so the chocolates hold until December 25.

Neuhaus Irresistibles advent calendar

Neuhaus, the Belgian chocolatier, built its calendar around its Irresistibles praline. The box holds 25 of them in 11 flavors, including a pistachio and a speculoos, the spiced Belgian cookie. The box unfolds into a Christmas tree, and each day a small gift box holds an individually wrapped praline to place among its branches. Neuhaus sells it in its boutiques and online.

The Irresistibles box is one of four Neuhaus calendars this year. The Advent Calendar Book holds 25 pralines inside an illustrated story of cocoa beans traveling to Belgium. The Sharing calendar packs 74 pralines, bars and hot chocolate treats, which Neuhaus says is enough for two. The Classic calendar mixes milk, white and dark pralines with hazelnut-filled winter figurines behind 25 windows. Neuhaus also lets buyers fill their own calendar with pralines they pick.

Compartes and Dandelion calendars

Compartes has three illustrated 24-chocolate calendars this year, including a Nutcracker design, according to Design Milk. The Enchanted Castle calendar holds 24 chocolates in 12 flavors, from eggnog crème brûlée to pistachio marzipan and salted honeycomb, per Compartes.

Dandelion Chocolate’s 2026 calendar holds 25 confections from 24 chocolatiers across North America and Japan, Design Milk reports. Each piece sits in its own ornament box with hand-drawn artwork by the Danish artist Lisa Grue.

Divine Fairtrade advent calendars

Divine makes two small 3-ounce calendars. The milk chocolate version uses Fairtrade cocoa from family farmers in Ghana, Divine says. It is labeled vegetarian. The dark chocolate version lists cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, lecithin and vanilla, with no milk. Its label still says it may contain milk or soy, as well as wheat and several nuts. That matters for anyone with a milk allergy, even though the recipe itself is dairy-free.

How is a gourmet calendar different from an everyday one?

The biggest change is what each day holds. Lindt’s Teddy Bear calendar, an everyday pick, has one foil-wrapped piece a day from 6.3 ounces in total. Vosges counts two to three servings a day, and Neuhaus gives each praline its own small gift box. Divine goes the other way: at 3 ounces, its calendars hold less than half the chocolate of the Lindt one, which suits someone who wants a small treat each morning rather than a dessert.

Does it cover Christmas Day?

Most of these run to 25. Vosges ends with a final piece on Day 25, Neuhaus holds 25 pralines, and Dandelion has 25 confections. The Compartes calendars stick to the usual 24, which ends the countdown on Christmas Eve.

Which gourmet calendars suit allergies?

Fillings make gourmet boxes harder to check than a box of plain milk chocolate. Compartes lists tree nuts in the Enchanted Castle ingredients, along with milk and eggs. Wheat flour and soy are listed too, and it is made in a facility that also handles peanuts and sesame. Divine’s dark calendar is the closest to dairy-free, but it carries the may-contain warning for milk. For the other three, read the label on the box itself before you give it to someone with an allergy.

Heat and shipping

Gourmet chocolate travels badly in warm weather. Compartes says it ships Monday to Wednesday in warm weather to avoid weekend transit, packs orders with ice, and may hold orders when the destination is over 75°F for two-day shipping or 80°F for next day. Bring the box inside as soon as it arrives and keep it somewhere cool until December 1.

Tip

Giving a gourmet calendar as a gift? Ship it straight to the person in November rather than holding it at home, so it spends less time in a warm room.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most luxurious chocolate advent calendar?

Vosges Haut-Chocolat's calendar is one of the most elaborate: the 2026 edition, The Grand Cacao Lodge, hides 25 days of truffles, bonbons, caramels and bars behind drawers, with a new theme each year. Dandelion's 2026 calendar brings together 25 confections from 24 chocolatiers.

When do gourmet chocolate advent calendars ship?

Often later than mass-market ones. Vosges says its calendar begins shipping in mid-November, and Compartes may hold orders when the destination is hot. Order early, then expect delivery closer to December.

Is there a dairy-free gourmet chocolate advent calendar?

Divine's Dark Chocolate Advent Calendar lists no milk in its ingredients, but its label says it may contain milk. That makes it unsuitable for a milk allergy, so read every label closely.
