Rows of wrapped tea bags in assorted colors filling a wooden tea box

A tea advent calendar hides a different tea behind each door, usually as loose leaf or tea bags, or in pyramid infusers. For 2026, DAVIDsTEA has a 48-serving loose-leaf calendar, Tea Forte offers 24-day and 12-day pyramid boxes, including an herbal one, and Adagio sells its 24-day calendar in loose tea or teabags, with a decaf version.

Which tea format is easiest each morning?

The format decides how much fuss each morning takes.

Loose leaf gives the widest choice of blends, but you need an infuser or a teapot. DAVIDsTEA and the standard Adagio calendar both use loose tea.

Tea bags are the easiest: drop one in a mug and go. Adagio sells a teabag version of its calendar for anyone who does not want to measure leaves.

Pyramid infusers sit in between. Tea Forte’s silken pyramids hold whole leaves, and each steeps 8 to 12 ounces of water. Tea Forte notes its infusers are not microwave-safe, so heat the water first.

DAVIDsTEA: a gingerbread house of loose tea

DAVIDsTEA sells two limited-edition calendars this year, 24 Days of Tea and 24 Days of Matcha, with 48 servings each.

The tea calendar is a gingerbread-house box. Each of its 24 compartments holds a surprise loose-leaf tea, with enough for two 8-ounce (250 ml) cups. DAVIDsTEA describes the blends as running from bold to fruity to spiced. Some have caffeine and some do not, with black teas and rooibos among them.

Matcha is powdered green tea that you whisk into water rather than steep, so it needs a whisk instead of an infuser. The matcha calendar suits someone who already makes matcha at home and wants 24 versions to try.

Tea Forte: pyramid calendars in two sizes

Tea Forte puts one pyramid infuser behind each numbered door. Its 2026 range comes in two lengths.

24 days. The Warming Joy calendar comes in an assorted version and an all-herbal version. The herbal box is shaped like a tree, with doors on the front and back and 24 different blends, one of each. Blends include Winter Chai and Turmeric Chai. Chamomile Lavender, Harvest Apple Spice and Peppermint Verbena are in the box too.

12 days. Winter Chalet and three other 12-day boxes (Volare, Demoiselle, Mariposa) suit a shorter countdown, or the twelve days before Christmas. Winter Chalet mixes black and oolong teas with green and herbal ones. Among them are English Breakfast and Mountain Oolong, plus Moroccan Mint and African Solstice, a rooibos.

Tea Forte says all the teas in the herbal Warming Joy and Winter Chalet calendars are kosher certified.

Adagio: one calendar, three formats

Adagio’s 2026 Snowglobe Tea Advent Calendar holds a different holiday-inspired flavor behind each of its 24 doors, with enough tea for an 8-ounce pot each day. It comes as loose tea or teabags, and there is a decaf version too. Adagio says its teas are gluten-free and dairy-free, as well as nut-free and vegan-friendly. Some blends still list natural almond, hazelnut or chestnut flavor, so check each tea’s ingredients for anyone with a nut allergy. The box measures 8.5 by 12.75 by 2 inches, small enough for a kitchen shelf. Adagio also lists a Nutcracker design.

Is a tea calendar enough for two people?

Check how much tea sits behind each door before you buy for a couple.

Calendar Tea per door Shares between two?
DAVIDsTEA Two 8-ounce cups of loose tea Yes, one cup each
Adagio One 8-ounce pot, about one mug Only as a small cup each
Tea Forte One pyramid for 8 to 12 ounces No, a single cup

For two tea drinkers in one house, the DAVIDsTEA box is the simplest to share; with a Tea Forte or Adagio calendar, buy two or take turns.

Picking a calendar for an evening tea drinker

Caffeine is the question to settle first for anyone who drinks tea at night. The FDA cites 400 milligrams a day as a safe amount for most healthy adults. It gives 71 milligrams for a 12-ounce black tea, against 113 to 247 milligrams for the same cup of brewed coffee. Some people may need less, including anyone who is pregnant or sensitive to caffeine, so they should ask their doctor. The same goes for people on certain medicines.

For a caffeine-free countdown, look at:

  • Tea Forte Warming Joy Herbal. Tea Forte says four of the 24 blends carry trace caffeine. Belgian Mint and Chocolate Fondue get it from cocoa husk. Purify and Spiced Herbal Maté get it from yerba mate. The rest are naturally caffeine-free.
  • Adagio decaf. The same 24-day calendar, decaffeinated.

Tip

Buying for someone who avoids caffeine after lunch? Open the herbal doors in the evening and save any black or green tea for the morning.
