Advent Calendars for Kids 2026: LEGO, Toys, Crafts and Collectibles

The best kids’ advent calendar depends on age first, then interests. Under-3s need calendars with no small parts, which rules out most toy calendars. From age 3, popular 2026 picks include Hot Wheels and NeeDoh Squishmas. From 4 or 5, add Pokemon figures, LEGO, Funko Pocket Pops, and craft or science kits. Check each box’s age label.

Why the age label on the box matters

Toy advent calendars are full of small pieces by design. That is why most carry an age grade of 3 or older.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s small parts rule, at 16 CFR part 1501, bans small parts in children’s products intended for children under 3. A small part is anything that fits entirely inside a test cylinder that CPSC says approximates the size of a young child’s fully expanded throat.

Toys for older children that contain small parts, latex balloons, small balls or marbles must carry a choking hazard warning that tells buyers which ages to avoid. So a “3+” on the box is not a comment on how fun it is. It often signals small parts inside.

Advent calendars for children under 3

Pre-filled toy calendars for this age are rare, because nearly every mini toy is small enough to fail the cylinder test. The safer route is a reusable calendar you fill yourself.

Choose big pockets or drawers, then fill them with things that are too large to fit in a child’s mouth: board books, chunky crayons made for toddlers, bath toys labeled for their age, or a note about a daily activity like baking or a walk to see lights. Ages 3 to 5: toy cars and squishies

This is where the pre-filled calendar market opens up.

Hot Wheels 2026 Advent Calendar

Mattel’s calendar has 24 doors hiding 10 die-cast cars at 1:64 scale, 14 accessories such as a reindeer and a sleigh, and 10 ornament clips so each car can hang on the tree. One car is an exclusive snow globe car with a yeti driver. Mattel rates it for ages 3 and up, with a small parts warning.

NeeDoh Squishmas 2026

Squishy toys have their own calendars now. Schylling’s 2026 Squishmas calendar holds 24 small squeeze toys, including Teenie NeeDoh favorites and exclusive holiday editions. The Toy Insider lists its age grade as 3 and up.

Which LEGO advent calendars are there in 2026?

Five themes are on sale this year, according to Brickset and Jay’s Brick Blog: City (60510), Friends (42698), Disney (43298), Star Wars (75456) and Marvel (76340). Brickset lists City at 252 pieces with a Santa’s workshop theme and Disney at 290 pieces.

Not every child wants another pile of figures. These calendars trade toys for daily projects:

What about candy calendars?

TODAY lists a Grinch calendar with gummies, chocolates and caramels, and candy calendars are everywhere in stores. They are easy, but check two things. Labels must name any of the major allergens, such as milk, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat and soy. How to buy a kids’ calendar on eBay

eBay is useful when a calendar sells out in stores or when you want a past year’s LEGO set. Look for:

• “New” and “sealed” in the listing, with photos of the intact box and doors. A resealed calendar can hide missing or swapped pieces.
• The year on the box. Contents change every year, and set numbers do too.
• Seller feedback and returns. Choose sellers with steady recent feedback who accept returns.
